If you were lucky enough to go to Dave Grohl’s birthday party last weekend then you got some very special birthday treats. We Frogs are JEALOUS!! The night was packed to the gills with surprise guests as Mr. Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters transformed the iconic L.A. Forum into Dave’s Rock & Roll Club. (Ironically, the L.A. episode of HBO’s “Sonic Highways” was by far the weakest one, and it glossed over almost everything amazing about the L.A. rock scene. He sure made up for it on his birthday!)
There were two highlights that caught our attention over here at the Frog. One was the delicious combo platter of Tenacious D and Slash teaming with Grohl and the Foo Fighters to smoke up the place on Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.”
And the other was Van Halen’s Diamond Dave himself rocking out on TWO Van Halen classics (“Panama” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”) to bring the house down.
An epic night… that we missed. Thank God for YouTube.
With double Daves rocking side by side, we couldn’t help but be reminded of this Kids In The Hall gem, “The Daves I Know.” BONUS: Scouring the internet for that sketch also turned up an exclusive interview of Bruce McCullough by the Nerdist himself. It’s all connected! Enjoy!
